PSYCHOLOGICAL MOVIES

APRIL 2023

I have a love for movies, and this project was a great outlet for me to express my love for psychological thrillers while also testing the limits of my studio lighting abilities. I took elements of my favorite movies to create interesting physical layouts with things laying around my home. This project was a great test of my DIY skills, understanding of the film, and a fun opportunity to mess with strobe lighting and hot lights.

I chose 6 movies that I have a deep connection with. Last Night at Soho sparked my inspiration with colorful and creative cinema. Interstellar is one of my all time favorite movies, and has been since it's release. I love the deep message of love being the center of our universe. Joker is one of those movies that I hated while I was watching, but appreciated on a deeper level once after further analysis. It is very dark, but it has its moments of introspection throughout. The Shining has a very specific color palette throughout the movie. I wanted to replicate this in feeling and in vision for this portion of the project. Same goes for The Truman Show, I wanted those feelings and colors very recognizable. And lastly, for Inception, I wanted the photo to be very simple to contrast with the complicated nature and metaphorical "silence" of the movie.
